The Challenge
MedLoop’s existing patient app had a 28% day-7 retention rate — well below the industry benchmark of 45%. Users were dropping off after their first appointment booking because the app offered no value between visits. The clinical team had data showing that engaged patients had 34% better health outcomes, but the product wasn’t driving engagement.
Our Approach
We ran 40 user interviews with patients across three age brackets and identified the core problem: the app only existed for appointments, not for health. We redesigned the information architecture around a daily health journey rather than a clinical transaction model.
The Solution
We built a React Native app with personalized daily health check-ins, medication reminders with smart snooze logic, health metric tracking with trend visualization, and secure messaging with care teams. Push notifications were rebuilt with a behavioural engine that learned optimal send times per user.
The Results
DAU increased by 42% within 30 days. Day-7 retention improved from 28% to 61%. The medication adherence rate among active users rose from 54% to 79%, which MedLoop cited in their Series B fundraising materials as proof of clinical impact.
